Sensei Scott Ward, Chief Instructor

karate-instructor-colorado-springs-sensei-wardSensei Scott Ward has lived in Colorado Springs since 1993. He was trained by Kyoshi Haynes of the Family Karate Center, right here in the Springs, in the art of Shotokan Karate, and was awarded a Black Belt on April 15th 2006.

Sensei Ward has competed in local, state, and national level tournaments since the beginning of his training. As a brown belt Sensei Ward became a National Sparring Champion, winning the 2005 State Games of America. In the same tournament he won the Silver medal in Kata, and the Bronze medal in Weapons Kata.

In addition to Karate, Sensei Ward is trained in the Art of Modern Arnis (Filipino stick fighting). Further augmenting his Karate skills, Sensei was a High School Wrestler, and Collegiate Fencer.

Sensei Ward runs multiple Karate Clubs in Colorado Springs. His clubs are operated in close association with Kyoshi Haynes of the Jay Haynes Family Karate Center.

Sensei Ward is passionate about the Martial Arts. His desire is to be a positive influence in the lives of children and to help them to grow up to be strong, courageous, and courteous young adults.

Joshua B. Ward, Instructor and Junior Black Belt

Joshua began his karate training at the age of 8.  He was trained by Kyoshi Haynes of the Family JB2Karate Center.  Josh ua has competed in local, state, and national level tournaments since the beginning of his training.

On April 15th  2006 Kyoshi Haynes awarded Joshua with the rank of Junior Black Belt in Shotokan Karate.   Since the World Karate Federation does not allow any one under the age of sixteen to hold the rank of Black Belt, Kyoshi Haynes recognnizes Karatekas with the rank of Junior Black Belt.

In addition to karate Joshua completed his first season of wrestling for Washington Irving Middle School undefeated.


Chet Myers, Assistant Instructorchet - assistant Instructor

Chet has been training with us for over two years, and is extremely enthusiastic about our karate program.  Chet brings with him a background in wrestling, weig ht training, and other body building activities.  Chet can be found most days in the gym.  If you have an questions about weight training, I am sure that he will be glad to help you out.   Chet is also our resident push up champion.

Keri is our Senior Student (highest ranking Student). Keri is preparing for her Black Belt test in the spring. Keri has competed in club, invitational, state, and national tournaments. Keri has a lot of drive and determination. Make sure that you ask her for any help the you need.

Sensei Tony Duenas, eXtreme Fitness / Self Defense Instructortony

Sensei Duenas is the instructor of our eXtreme program. Sensei Duenas has 14 years of experance in Martial Arts and Holds a 3rd degree (Sandan) black belt in Isshin-ryu Karate. Sensei Duenas trained under Garry Norris in California, and operated his own school for four years in California teaching the program that we now call eXtreme Fitness / Self Defense. Sensei Duenas is truely an expert at combining fitness training with real world street self defense. Please don’t heritage to ask Senei Duenas any of our self defense questions.
